HOW YOU'RE HELPING

Sylvia's Story

Sylvia is a 25-year-old woman who was born and raised in destitute circumstances. With no education, she ended up with the father of her three children at a very young age and they have three boys aged 10, 8 and 5. The boys’ father abandoned Sylvia and the children when the youngest was just a baby, and she now has to raise and cater for her children alone.

Sylvia rents a small room in the slums of Entebbe. She had to take her youngest boy to her mother who is also struggling. Sylvia works as a chambermaid in a hotel, 10 hrs a day and 6 days a week with a minimum wage of $35 a month. This little income is what Sylvia uses to send her children to school with.

This is Sylvia and her two boys. We asked Sylvia to bring the children to us on her free day. That’s when we took these photos. For her own safety we couldn’t go to her place. “They were so amazed and happy to be invited, ” says Sylvia.

The boys help each other get ready for school. They prepare and cook their own meals while their mother is at work. “They are well behaved children and very understanding.” says Sylvia.

Sylvia`s earnings are not enough to pay for her boys’ education. She is struggling with consistent payment of their school fees which could ultimately lead to the boys being sent back home. Her boys go to a day primary school in Entebbe.

Sylvia wants her children to get the education she never had a chance to get. She says her boys like to study too.

With the help of your donations, Nantale House Reachout (NHR) managed to pay for two full terms of school fees for both boys. All outstanding school fees were also paid. The boys are now able to continue with their education. This has also taken some pressure off their mom so she can provide for other essential items for her youngest child too. Sylvia and her children are in a much better condition, thanks to your support and donations.

Thank you for spreading the kindness and your continued support to changing lives.
